Week 2 Preview - Story-lines

Joshua J. put together some highlights on the most important story-lines in College Football this weekend.  Also, to leave comments you must leave one anonymously or register for free using a pre-existing email of any kind (hotmail, yahoo, whatever!)  It only takes a second to do and you might as well become a "reader" once you do!

1.        Mizzou vs. Arizona State - How will MU look tonight?
Tiger nation is highly anticipating Franklin’s second start.  I don’t think many questioned how strong the Tiger defense looked last week against Miami of Ohio, but will the offense be more improved?  Tonight’s game in the desert will provide the Tiger faithful with a better picture of how this team will perform the rest of the season.

2.        Alabama vs. Penn State - How good is Penn State?
Everyone knows that Alabama is one of the best teams in the country, but few fans really know where Penn State fits in this year.  State’s quarterbacks Matthew McGloin and Rob Bolden will be put to the test as they go against one of the nation’s most dominant defenses.  It’s a classic SEC vs. Big Ten match up - or should I say an SEC romp of another hapless Big Ten team?

3.        TCU vs. Air Force – Can the Frogs defense bounce back?
The TCU defense was embarrassed and humiliated in its loss to Baylor last week.  How will the proud TCU defense look this week?  The good news is Air Force is a run based offense, so the Frogs won’t have to face an aerial attack like they did in Waco, which exposed the weakest link in their defense: the secondary.

4.       South Carolina vs. Georgia – Will this be the beginning of the  end  for  Mark Richt?
South Carolina rolls into Athens with Lattimore carrying the weight of the offense on his back.    Will the Dawg’s defense be able to slow him down, or the aerial attack of Garcia to Jeffery?  Can Murray lead a desperate Georgia team in a crucial game that will help decide who will be in the driver’s seat in the SEC East?  If Georgia loses this game Richt’s seat will be scorching.

5.        Mississippi State vs. Auburn – Was last week a fluke for Auburn?
Utah State should have beaten Auburn last week.  Were the Aggies better than we gave them credit for, or is Auburn in for a really long season?  This weekend’s match up with the upstart Bulldogs will tell Tiger fans more about their team.

6.        Notre Dame vs. Michigan - Can Notre Dame bounce back?
After the debacle in South Bend, can the Irish regroup in extremely hostile territory (115,000 expected in the Big House)?  We’ll see how good the new and improved Wolverine defense is against the Irish hurry up offense.  Will Kelly’s quarterback switch from Crist to Rees help the ailing Irish offense?  Which team will take a larger step in resurrecting their program?  This is the must see game of the week!
